Our
goal is to have FUN while teaching proper speed skating technique,
discipline, self-motivation, dedication, leadership, team-building
and sportsmanship. Many of our skaters are not only children, but their parents too. Those family members who do not skate are invited to participate in club activities, making speed skating a family affair and a shared sporting pasttime. Download the MSSC Registration Form today! Potential New Members - Mark your calendar to attend Registration Night, September 17, 2007 at the Midland Civic Arena Conference Room, 6PM-8PM. Wear the socks you want to skate in, as you'll be trying on speedskates. Remember, you can try speedskating for one month free! |

| Season
- The
season lasts from October through March, and is broken up into two
separate sessions. Advanced skaters may opt to skate on Tuesday nights in September
at 7PM. Practices - Practices are held Monday & Thursday nights, with skaters grouped by ability. A Tuesday session is available for advanced skaters only. The detailed 2007-2008 season practice schedule can be found here. Skates - MSSC has a limited, but generally ample number of speed skates for rent at $60/season. Contact Dick Smith, skate rental coordinator. Skate Sharpening - MSSC has a number of sharpening kits, which are shared by club members. Each skater will be assigned a sharpening jig "team," and given instruction on how to properly sharpen skates. Contact jig team coordinator Gary Dyke for more information. Team SkinSuit - MSSC members are able to rent a team skinsuit for $10/year at the begining of the season, which is restricted for wear only on "Badge Nights" and at meets. Fees - MSSC offers skaters a "One Month Free" trial period, which includes free skate rental and ice fees. Upon joining the club, members are assessed an ice fee for each session they skate. Fees for the 2007-2008 season remain unchanged from last season, at $230/skater for the fall session (includes Michigan Speedskating Association $10/year membership); and $220/spring session. Family Cap of $440/session + $10/skater/year for Michigan Speedskating Association Membership. Families pay for two skaters only, and the rest skate free. Membership in U.S. Speedskating is required. |
